ENERGY RELIABILITY While solar and wind power are likely to be our carbon-free future energy sources, they are unreliable and need to be complemented with something reliable and with a low carbon content. Enter Natural Gas! Nat Gas is reliable, low carbon, cheap, abundant, safe, and easily transportable. Transitioning to solar and wind without a proper plan for reliability is a recipe for an energy disaster. We're in the midst of an energy EVOLUTION, not a TRANSITION. Nat Gas is the primary input for electricity & and also fertilizer production. Energy & Food are 2 basic human needs. That makes natural gas the most important commodity of our lives. Why can't more countries use cleaner nat gas? They don't have access to it. We do! Two-thirds of the world's nat gas is concentrated in 4 countries - USA (largest reserves), Russia, Qatar, & Iran. This is why being a supporter of a fossil fuel like natural gas is NOT contradictory to being climate-friendly. Coal, Oil, and Natural Gas are the primary fuels for producing electricity in the world today. If we want the share of coal and oil to drop, then the share of nat gas must go up to make up for the shortfall. This is because solar and wind can't rapidly scale up to fill the void. Hence, the share of nat gas must go up before it goes down. Replacing Coal with Nat Gas is the “low hanging fruit”. Less Coal + More Natural Gas = Less CO2. When an entire continent was in danger of running out of gas, like Europe was in 2023, the importance of this valuable resource cannot and should not be taken for granted. The United States is one of the top 4 producers of natural gas in the world with more proven reserves than Saudi Arabia. The U.S. is the most secure source of energy relative to unstable autocratic regimes. As a country with stringent enforceable laws, the U.S. can produce nat gas more cleanly than Russia or Iran. The U.S. has a golden opportunity to play a critical role by becoming the world's largest and most reliable supplier of Liquified Natural gas (LNG). Nat Gas prices at Henry Hub (Louisiana) are amongst the lowest in the world. If the U.S. doesn't step up, one thing is certain. Someone else will!
